Healthier Highways, one of the initiatives highlighted for their "BIG IDEA" have received the ultimate accolade in being crowned winners in the Outstanding Contribution to Health Safety and Wellbeing category.
In partnership with Connect Plus on the M25 long time advocate and friend of Safer Highways, Steve Perkins, has developed a programme which truly breaks down the boundaries around occupational hygiene as an approach to truly improving health amongst our workforce.
Tonight (10th February) at the ICC in Birmingham, as part of a glittering ceremony the approach has now been recognised with a prestigious award.
However, the origins of this initiative are something which lies deep routed within Safer Highways own values of putting our people before everything else and the trajectory of the programme mirror our own initiative, as Safer Highways CEO and long time friend of Mr Perkins explains,
He said, "Back in 2018, Steve Perkins spoke at our annual event about how through a ground-breaking approach, a few simple interventions and a proactive use of technology it was possible to improve conditions around health and occupational hygiene.
"In the audience that day was Elaine Gazzini of Connect Plus, who then proceeded to engage Steve in a conversation about his approach... and as this award proves, having a BIG IDEA can pay dividend.
"Engaging with the One Community on the M25 which includes Safer Highways members Jackson Civils, Osborne, Tarmac and Atkins both Connect Plus and Steve worked towards an innovative, yet collaborative and inclusive approach."
Speaking about his delight at the award Steve said,
"Combining our expertise in health protection with the collaborative M25 culture and the leadership shown by Connect Plus, has produced significant measurable health control;land culture improvements."
