Civil engineering contractor, FM Conway, has been appointed to deliver highway maintenance in the county of Sussex over a seven-year term, for £35 million.

West Sussex County Council has awarded the family-run firm its multi-million-pound Highways Drainage Maintenance Services contract, due to begin in April.

Essential services under the contract include:

  • CCTV investigations

  • Reactive drainage work

  • Ditching maintenance

  • Gully cleansing

  • System jetting

  • Ironworks

The initial seven-year partnership also contains the possibility for an extension of seven further years.

VolkerHighways has just been awarded the Highway Maintenance Core Services contract by West Sussex County Council.

The contract has an estimated combined annual revenue and capital spend of £16.5 million per annum and will also begin on 1 April for seven years, with a possible extension of seven further years.

“We’re excited to announce that FM Conway has successfully secured the West Sussex County Council Highways Drainage Maintenance Services contract, valued at £35 million over the initial term of the contract,” FM Conway announced.

“This significant achievement not only reflects the excellence of our Water and Drainage Management teams, but it also continues to ensure we are geographically the leading provider in the south for these services.

“We’re looking forward to future projects and the opportunity to enhance drainage systems across West Sussex, providing innovations that will benefit the local community for years to come.”

In October last year, VINCI Construction struck a deal to acquire FM Conway for an undisclosed sum.

Commenting on the acquisition at the time, FM Conway CEO, Joanne Conway, said: “The time is now right for the next chapter of our growth story. Beyond the obvious operational and commercial synergies, we share a set of values with VINCI and an approach to business that’s about putting people first, doing great work, and respecting the communities we operate in.”

FM Conway’s turnover in the financial year ending March 2024 was £580 million.
