First phase of Spalding Active Travel ‘Levelling Up’ improvements complete

Cllr Richard Davies, executive member for highways, said: “I’m really happy to announce that the first phase of our ‘Levelling Up’ active travel improvements in Spalding are now complete.

“As part of this initial set of works, the team has built a 3-metre wide footway/cycleway near the skatepark at Fulney Avenue to the southside of Holbeach Road; added a dropped crossing to the northside of Holbeach Road; and resurfaced the shared footway/cycleway on Holbeach Road up to the Camel Gate roundabout.

“I want to thank everyone for their patience during these works to improve connectivity to the Springfields Outlet area so people can access it easier by foot or cycle.

“Up next, we’ll be continuing to explore the options around building a new footway/cycleway along Coronation Bank to Springfields Outlet Shopping & Leisure. However, before going ahead with any works here, we’ll need detailed design plans and to reach an agreement with the Environment Agency.

“All being well, we hope to start this second phase of works in 2024.”

Further details about this second set of works will be shared once more information is available.

The Spalding Active Travel improvements are expected to cost £380,000, which will be funded by a portion of the £20m in ‘Levelling Up’ funding awarded to the county council in October 2021.

The remaining funding is being used across other four projects, including improvements to Spalding’s A16/A151 Springfield Roundabout and A16/B1180 Greencell Roundabout.
