First phase of £1.25m Derby Road project nears completion

Works to reconstruct and resurface the A5121 Derby Road between James Brindley Way and the Pirelli Roundabout in Burton are on track to be completed by 28 June.

The £1.25 million scheme includes repairs to drainage systems, kerbing, ironwork and footpaths where required.

Derby Road closed for a week at the end of April so that drainage and preparation work could take place. Crews completed these works a day ahead of schedule and fully reopened the road on 2 May.

Weather permitting, overnight road closures will now be in place until 28 June so that surfacing works can be undertaken with minimal disruption to the local community.

A signed diversion route will be in place along with designated personnel at either end of the closure points to offer advice and assistance with access to properties within the road closures.

For everyone’s safety, road users must not attempt to drive through road closures or onto grass verges to avoid them. This is incredibly dangerous and completely unacceptable.

The full carriageway surfacing works will take place between the junction of the Pirelli Roundabout to the James Brindley Way Roundabout.

Works will also include repairs to ironwork, replacement of traffic detection sensors and refreshing road markings, damaged signs, bollards as well as other street furniture.

Daytime works will continue using traffic signals or lane narrowing, and crews may work through the weekend where needed.
