Fake legs used as a pointer for pothole

A resident frustrated by a large pothole near his village has taken a lighthearted approach, placing a pair of fake legs in the puddle it created.

The unusually deep hole on Haverhill Road in Castle Camps, near the Suffolk border, has existed for around eight months.

Carpenter James Coxall, 41, said the road wasn’t heavily trafficked, but passing vehicles often had to swerve or risk hitting the pothole. “We decided to have a bit of fun with it,” he explained.

On Sunday, Mr Coxall and his family fashioned a pair of legs from old jeans and rags, topped with colourful shoes destined for charity. Using wood and a brick to stabilize the figure, they placed it in the water-filled pothole and photographed the creation, which quickly drew attention on local Facebook groups.

Cambridgeshire County Council confirmed a highways officer would inspect the site and carry out repairs as needed, and encouraged residents to report potholes using the official online tool.
