Reports circulate of contract announcement in coming days.

According to reports in the sector, Skanska have been successful in securing the Kent Roads section of the Lower Thames Crossing programme.

The £600m Kent Roads contract is a two-stage design and build contract for the part of the route from the A2/M2 corridor to 1km south of the southern tunnel entrance, with strategic utilities and environmental interfaces.

Just a number of weeks ago the £1.3 billion Roads North of the Thames contract, also a two-stage design and build contract delivering the route from 1km north of the northern tunnel entrance to Junction 29 of the M25, was awarded to Balfour Beatty.

An un-named source has told Insight that following the awarding of the Kent roads contract, it is now in a two week period where should no legal challenge be made then an official announcement regarding the award will be made.

The news comes at an uncertain time for the project following a government announcement to delay the project by two years, legal challenges around the footprint and widespread local opposition to the route.

National Highways were contacted and at this point no comment has been received.

This is a developing story which will be updated.
