A 50-mile diversion has been put in place on a busy A road while the surface is dug up to reinforce and stabilise it.

Suffolk Highways will be closing the A1101 Burnt Fen Turnpike in Beck Row from Monday, September 8, to Monday, September 22.

The road will be closed at all times between Farthing Drove and the Shippea Hill train station.

Suffolk Highways said the closure is to allow them to "excavate the current road surface, reinforcing the area beneath and then installing a new road surface on top."

Before this work, there will be temporary traffic lights put in place as several trees are removed in order for the roadworks to take place.

These will be in place from Monday, September 1, to Friday, September 5.

During the closure, Suffolk Highways has put a 50-mile diversion in place to get from one side of the closure to the other.

The road closure uses the A1065, A134, A1122, A10 and vice versa.
