Edinburgh has been named the city with the best public transport in Scotland — and the UK — according to a recent ranking by The Telegraph.
The newspaper evaluated 12 major cities across the country on the quality and convenience of their transport systems, giving each an overall score out of ten.
The Scottish capital earned an impressive 9/10 for its network, which is largely centred on buses and trams. Residents and visitors benefit from a wide variety of bus routes across the city, while trams operate every seven minutes between Edinburgh Airport and Newhaven.
Additionally, trains connect key stations such as Waverley and Haymarket, offering further travel options.
The Telegraph highlighted Edinburgh’s combination of efficient bus and tram services, noting that many of the city’s major tourist attractions are easily accessible via public transport. The city also scored highly for its walkability, with most landmarks reachable on foot.
Particular praise was given to the tram system, which the newspaper described as “much more enjoyable” than the London Underground, citing its affordability and punctual service.
While Edinburgh does not have a metro network, The Telegraph suggested that the existing connections across the city and into surrounding areas are sufficient for most travellers.
