National Highways is advising drivers travelling on the southbound A249 to plan ahead as there will be a series of weekend closures, starting this weekend, to install new drainage utility pipes under the road at the Stockbury roundabout as part of the M2 junction 5 improvement scheme.
To do this safely, National Highways will be closing the southbound A249 carriageway, from the Bobbing roundabout to north of the Stockbury roundabout, for three weekends in June.
This work has been carefully planned and coordinated with local stakeholders to keep disruption to a minimum as well as reduce the amount of time the road is fully closed.
This work will be carried out using a mix of lane closures on Friday evening at 10pm on 10 June, with the road reopening by 5am on Monday 13 June, the first of three weekend closures.
The first two weekends will start with a lane closure on Friday evening, before the road is fully closed on Saturday morning:

10pm Friday 17 June to 5am Monday 20 June
10pm Friday 24 June to 5am Monday 27 June
For the third weekend, (Friday 24 June to Monday 27 June) contractors will be working under lane closures on Friday, Saturday and Sunday night, with full closures during the day.
For drivers heading south (towards Maidstone) from the Bobbing roundabout, there will be a signed diversion via Sheppey Way, Chestnut Street and Maidstone Road. This will bring road users to the Stockbury roundabout, where they can continue your journey.
