Motorists travelling through west London are being advised to prepare for continued weekend disruption on the A40 Westway as Transport for London (TfL) carries out essential maintenance works near the Westway Roundabout.
The programme, which involves the replacement of safety-critical expansion joints, is now entering its final stages and is expected to be completed by 1 June.
As part of the works, westbound sections of the A40 will continue to close during selected weekends, with restrictions in place from 10pm on Fridays until 5am on Mondays. TfL said the closures are necessary to maintain the long-term safety and reliability of one of London’s busiest road corridors.
The Marylebone Flyover will remain open throughout the works, although drivers are likely to experience delays and are being encouraged to allow extra time for journeys.
TfL has implemented signed diversion routes for affected traffic and is advising motorists to consider alternative travel options where possible, including public transport, cycling and walking.
Despite the closures, access to key destinations such as Westfield White City will remain available during the works.
The maintenance programme forms part of TfL’s wider strategy to improve the resilience and operational safety of London’s road infrastructure network.
TfL is also encouraging road users to check live travel updates through its online travel tools, Journey Planner and TfL Go app before travelling, allowing drivers and passengers to monitor traffic conditions and transport service updates in real time.
Once completed, the works are expected to reduce the need for future emergency repairs and improve the long-term performance of the A40 Westway route.
