The Devon Expressway is amongst the best routes for delivery drivers to drive
The A38 through Devon has been named one of the country's 'best roads' in a new survey.
Retailer AO recently shared the results from research where thousands of delivery drivers crowned their favourite roads in the country.
Although Scotland's A9 won the vote, Devon's A38 Expressway made it into the top five, as did Cornwall's scenic A39 route.
When asked what criteria make a road the best to drive, drivers said they preferred roads that were long and clear, often with stunning scenery.
Both delivery drivers and the public decided the M6 and M25 motorways were the worst roads to drive in the UK.
AO turned to its fleet of over 700 drivers to get their opinion on the best and worst roads.
Top five best roads according to AO delivery drivers
• A9 – Perth to Inverness, Scotland
• A39 – The Atlantic Highway, Cornwall, England
• A55 – North Wales Expressway, Wales
• A38 – Devon Expressway, England
• A5 – London to Holyhead Trunk Road, England/Wales
However, the M6 between Manchester and Birmingham was a clear winner when it came to the 'worst roads' to drive, followed by the M25 around Greater London – due to traffic and congestion on these routes.
Almost one-fifth (18%) of Brits believe picturesque A591 is the best road to drive, closely followed by the A170 across the North Yorkshire Moors (13%) and the A39, Cornwall’s Atlantic Highway (11%).

• A170 – North Yorkshire Moors, England
• A39 – The Atlantic Highway, Cornwall, England
• A37 – Cheddar Gorge, Somerset, England
• A82 – Glasgow to Fort William, Scotland
The majority of the 2,000 Brits surveyed agreed with AO’s drivers on the worst roads - over a third said that the M25 circling Greater London is the worst road to drive, followed by the M6. Over half of Brits chose the best road based on the picturesque scenery, whereas over a third picked a road that was fun to drive.
When it came to the worst roads, over half of Brits chose their road based on the constant traffic and it always being busy.
The research also revealed that while over a third of Brits go for a drive to get from A to B, one in five chooses to go for a drive to simply relax and unwind.
