Croydon Council has outlined how it intends to spend new transport funding over the next two years after securing a £9 million investment package to tackle some of the borough’s most pressing transport challenges.
The funding includes £6.9 million awarded by Transport for London through Croydon’s Local Implementation Plan (LIP), alongside a further £2.1 million generated from Section 106 developer contributions. One of the key beneficiaries is a road that has long been linked to speeding and collision issues.
Local Implementation Plans are produced by London boroughs in line with the Mayor of London’s transport strategy, setting out priorities for improving local transport networks. Croydon Council says the latest funding allocation will support measures to enhance bus reliability, improve road safety, and deliver new walking and cycling routes across the borough.
Although the funding has now been confirmed, the council noted that most proposed schemes will still need to undergo feasibility assessments. Final designs and exact locations will be determined once those studies are completed.
