Lincolnshire County Council's executive committee voted unanimously to submit the North Hykeham Relief Road planning application. The project, including an overview of the scheme and its proposed planning application, was reviewed and discussed by the executive on Tuesday, October 3.
Main construction of the relief road is expected to start in November 2025 with an aim to be open by late 2028. The cost of the scheme, which would form the final section of a complete ring road around Lincoln, is currently estimated to be between £180m and £208m.
It would see a new dual carriageway built, linking the A46 Pennells Roundabout to the newly constructed Lincoln Eastern Bypass. As part of the project, new roundabouts would be built at South Hykeham Road, Brant Road and Grantham Road. A number of bridges would also be constructed, including at Station Road and over the River Witham.
Cllr Richard Davies, executive member for highways, said: "I’m incredibly happy to announce that the county council’s Executive voted unanimously to submit the planning application for the North Hykeham Relief Road. The next step will be for the project team to put the finishing touches on the application with a view to submitting it within the next month.
"Once submitted, anyone interested will be able to view it on our planning portal and comment for at least 30 days. With that said, we’ll have a clearer idea of its status come spring 2024."
