Costain has been selected as one of three suppliers on a Transport for London (TfL) framework agreement that will support the delivery of significant rail infrastructure improvements across the capital.
The framework, valued at around £700 million in total, will see the appointed contractors compete for design and construction projects over an initial two-year period, with the possibility of a further two-year extension.
Through the agreement, suppliers will help deliver a range of upgrades to London’s rail network, including improvements at South Kensington Underground station and projects linked to TfL’s wider programme to increase step-free access across the transport system.
As part of its role, Costain will provide design, engineering, project delivery and supply chain management services, drawing on its experience in managing complex transportation infrastructure schemes.
The appointment further strengthens the company's long-standing relationship with TfL. In recent years, Costain has been involved in a variety of projects for the transport authority, including the modernisation of the A40 Westway corridor using innovative construction techniques and digital technologies.
Beyond its work in London, Costain continues to play a significant role in the delivery of HS2. The company is part of a joint venture with Siemens Mobility responsible for developing the high-voltage power network for the new railway, while the Skanska Costain STRABAG partnership is delivering a series of ventilation shafts and headhouses along the route beneath London.
Alex Vaughan, Chief Executive of Costain, said:
“We are a trusted, long-term partner of Transport for London, and our growing relationship with this important customer is testament to our proven track record in delivering best-in-class infrastructure services across the capital. Upgrading London’s transport network is critical for a more prosperous, resilient and decarbonised UK. We look forward to bringing our capabilities in engineering, design and construction to deliver high-impact projects on time and on budget, underpinning London’s growth for future generations.”
The framework is expected to support TfL’s ongoing investment programme, helping to modernise transport infrastructure, improve accessibility and enhance the reliability of services for millions of passengers across London.
