Following the publication of our first Carbon Management & Reduction Plan in 2020, we sought to reduce our Carbon footprint. Burning fossil fuels to power off-grid compounds and plant produced 40% of our Scope 1 emissions, so by using emerging technologies we could significantly reduce our production of greenhouse gases.
Our Plant & Transport team sourced solar powered generators and battery storage units (BSU), low-voltage lighting and HVO fuel, working with our Operations teams to implement these solutions on site. In three years this has taken our GHG output from 1.2 million down to 377,000 kgCO2e.
Thanks to our innovative and sustainable suppliers including Think Hire, who provided robust evidence showing that our use of Solartainers at eight sites in 2024 has saved in excess of 169 tonnes of Carbon Dioxide, enough to fill 39 hot air balloons or 17 million footballs!
And we’re not keeping the idea to ourselves! We shared the concept with our sister companies at the Renew Holdings plc Safety and Environment Management Group event which led to it being mandated on all compounds and sites across the group. Meanwhile, presentations at working groups across the industry led to The Chevron Group adopting this as best practice.
We'll be celebrating with The Green Organisation at the awards ceremony in November.
