Carnell on the journey to creating a social value legacy

Local Parish Councillor presents Carnell with nationally recognised social value award, as food bank donations ramp up ahead of Christmas.

Chairman of Penkridge Parish Council, Councillor Victor Kelly presented Carnell with the award which recognises the achievement of Social Value Quality Mark (SVQM) Level 1.

The Quality Mark recognises distinction in values-led business that benefits customers, communities and the planet. It is one of the most rigorously tested standards of its kind in the UK. To gain the Level 1 Quality Mark, Carnell had to demonstrate evidence of a clear process for the strategic and operational management of social value. A series of pledges were made to create, measure and accurately report the impact across several areas encompassed by social value.

The announcement of the social value award coincides with a milestone being reached for Carnell’s food bank collections taking place at their Penkridge, Leyland, Normanton and Bury St. Edmunds offices. The generosity of employees and suppliers has seen over 500 items being donated in the last month alone. With the current cost of living crisis, the contribution to the food banks will have made a huge difference to local families at Christmas, with collections continuing into the new year.

Meanwhile, Carnell are on target to smash their annual target of 2200 hours spent on community initiatives. Each employee is given a day a year to volunteer, with over 800 hours already logged since the beginning of their current financial year (1 Oct 2022).

Receiving the SVQM award, Adrian Oulds, BusinessDirector at Carnell, commented: “We define social valueas the contribution Carnell makes to the economy and the environment, while supporting the education, health and wellbeing of its people and the communities in which we work. We have made great strides over the last year to understand and implement initiatives that will create a tangible, outcome-focused legacy. Achieving Level 1 is the start of our journey, and it is our mission to continually improve, inspiring our clients and suppliers to be as passionate about social value as we are.”

Richard Dickins, MD of Social Value Quality Mark CIC, said: “This award recognises Carnell’s outstanding commitment to create, report and embed social value. The awarding panel were impressed by how Carnell embraced the process, undertaking it with high levels of commitment. We are delighted to remain their social value partner as they move up through the levels.”
