A local bus driver has been named ‘Star of the Month’ in recognition of his efforts to promote positive mental health among colleagues and the wider community.
Leigh Barker, based at Stagecoach East Midlands’ Hull depot, received a commendation certificate and a £100 Love2Shop voucher for his work raising awareness of mental health and supporting the charity Andy’s Man Club.
Colleagues praised Barker for his dedication. One wrote:
“Leigh consistently raises awareness of mental health for colleagues and the wider community. His efforts to brand two buses with the Andy’s Man Club message, #ITSOKAYTOTALK, show his commitment. This recognition is well deserved.”
Another added:
“He has done outstanding work promoting men’s mental health through Andy’s Man Club. Well done, Leigh.”
Earlier this year, Stagecoach East Midlands decorated two buses with the charity’s branding. Andy’s Man Club offers free, peer-to-peer support groups across the UK and online, aiming to challenge stigma around men’s mental health and encourage open conversations.
Matt Cranwell, Managing Director of Stagecoach East Midlands, presented the commendation and said:
“I’m incredibly proud of Leigh’s dedication. His passion for mental health has inspired others to get involved and seek support. His work helped forge Stagecoach’s partnership with Andy’s Man Club, which other operating companies are now keen to join.
“These awards reflect our values of supporting communities and working together, and Leigh demonstrates these every day.”
