Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Future of Roads Lilian Greenwood has said the government is “carefully considering” options on the Birmingham highways PFI deal.
Taking questions in Parliament, Greenwood said the government will make an announcement on the way forward “as soon as possible”.
“We are committed to working together in the best interests of his constituents, the people of Birmingham and the taxpayer,” she added.
Last year, a UK court deemed the Department for Transport’s move to scrap funding for the Birmingham highways PFI scheme to be “unlawful”. That decision had been taken under the Conservative government, however so far the Labour administration has not sought to reinstate the funding.
