Infrastructure services provider Amey has announced a new partnership with FYLD, an AI-powered frontline intelligence platform, to deploy digital tools across its Highways division, supporting more than 2,500 field workers.

The agreement will see FYLD’s technology integrated into Amey’s daily operations, enabling teams to plan, manage and complete highway maintenance and improvement works more efficiently while improving safety and operational visibility.

AI-powered workflows for frontline teams

As part of the long-term partnership, Amey will introduce digital workflows and AI-enabled risk assessment tools to help streamline work across its highways operations.

The platform supports the full lifecycle of highway maintenance activities, including:

  • Pre-site inspections

  • Start-of-shift briefings

  • Point-of-work risk assessments

  • Live remote support

  • Digital job completion and reporting

The system is designed to give supervisors real-time insight into work taking place on the ground, while helping field teams carry out tasks more consistently and safely.

Addressing sector challenges

The rollout comes at a time when the highways sector faces growing pressure from ageing infrastructure, climate-related disruption, population growth and tighter budgets.

According to Amey, many existing tools and paper-based processes struggle to meet modern operational demands, making digital transformation increasingly important.

Kyle Clough, Sector Business Director for Amey, said the partnership represents a major step forward for the organisation.

“Highways are the backbone of how communities stay connected and economies keep moving,” he said.

“That’s why this partnership is such an important step forward. Working with FYLD puts us ahead of the curve on digital transformation and gives our frontline teams smarter, faster and more consistent ways of delivering the essential services communities rely on every day.”

Successful pilot programme

Before full deployment, the two companies completed a three-month pilot programme, testing the technology across more than 500 jobs.

The pilot produced strong results, including:

  • 95% of jobs including AI-enabled risk assessments

  • 85% active user engagement among field teams

  • Improvements in job preparation and daily workflow efficiency

  • A reduction in job aborts

During the pilot, Amey and FYLD also collaborated to develop new customised features, including video-based workflows, offline AI-enabled risk assessments and automated handover summaries generated using generative AI.

Driving digital transformation in infrastructure

Shelley Copsey, CEO and co-founder of FYLD, said the partnership demonstrates how digital technology can modernise infrastructure delivery.

“We built FYLD to help modernise how critical infrastructure is delivered and maintained, particularly in sectors where safety, scale and public impact intersect,” she said.

“Bringing real-time visibility and targeted AI into field operations at scale with Amey is a significant step toward making that work more efficient and sustainable.”

Full rollout underway

Following the successful pilot, full operational deployment of the platform is now underway across Amey’s highways operations.

The companies say the rollout will use real-time frontline data and insights to support further improvements in safety, efficiency and operational performance across the network.
