As the UK marks Clean Air Day, new data from Amey shows its electric vehicle (EV) charging network across Trafford and Manchester has powered more than 20,000 miles of electric journeys since installation, underlining the role public charging infrastructure is already playing in cutting emissions and supporting cleaner transport.

Together, these journeys have avoided an estimated 3.9 tonnes of CO₂ emissions across Trafford and Manchester, showing clear early progress in reducing emissions locally. The figures also point to sustained uptake of public EV charging as more drivers transition away from petrol and diesel vehicles.

Anna Gornall, EVCI Account Director at Amey, said: “Drivers across Trafford and Manchester are already making the switch to lower-emission travel using this network, and we are seeing the real impact on the ground. Every mile powered through EV charging helps cut emissions and improve air quality for local communities.”

“As demand continues to grow, accessible and reliable charging infrastructure will be key to accelerating the transition to electric vehicles at scale.”

The environmental benefits extend beyond the network itself, with charging units supplied by TRT Lighting, where one tree is planted for every unit produced.
