Wiltshire Council is bringing stakeholders together in a new bid to shape the future of travel across the county, with the launch of the Wiltshire Sustainable Transport Forum.

The initiative creates a county-wide partnership, uniting transport providers, businesses, community groups and public sector organisations to collaborate on how transport is planned, funded and delivered. The focus is firmly on cleaner, safer and more sustainable travel options, including active travel, public transport and low-carbon solutions.

Councillor Martin Smith, cabinet member for highways, streetscene and flooding, said the forum is about ensuring transport works for Wiltshire both now and in the future. He highlighted the importance of involving partners and communities early to develop practical solutions that improve air quality, road safety and travel choice, while making the most of available funding.

The forum’s first meeting covered a wide range of topics, including progress on Local Transport Plan 4 (LTP4), electric vehicle infrastructure, walking and cycling schemes, bus service improvements and School Streets pilots.

Attendees also took part in discussions to identify key challenges and opportunities, helping to set priorities for future collaboration.

With an ongoing programme of meetings planned, the forum aims to keep momentum building—ensuring Wiltshire’s transport system evolves with input from those who use it, shape it and rely on it every day.
