Residents in Great Yarmouth will see walking and cycling improvements in their local area this Autumn thanks to funding from Active Travel England.

Norfolk County Council have shared revised proposals to improve conditions for walking and cycling on Jellicoe Road, following an earlier public consultation.

The proposed route will provide safer walking and cycling facilities along Jellicoe Road between Caister Road and Beatty Road and introduce a number of improved crossing facilities.

Concerns about the removal of on street parking were raised in the original design and the scheme has now been revised to ensure that all on street parking is retained.

Cllr Graham Plant, Norfolk County Council's cabinet member for highways, transport and infrastructure said: "The local community were asked their views on the scheme and the council have listened. The revised proposals will make the local area safer and more accessible, whilst still enabling people to park outside their homes.

"This scheme is one of many projects being delivered across the county which supports our wider strategy to increase levels of walking, wheeling and cycling for shorter journeys."

Letters have been sent to local residents in the area and full details of the revised scheme are available on the council's website - www.norfolk.gov.uk/jellicoeroad

Following the advertisement of the necessary Traffic Regulation Orders, works are currently programmed to start late September 2025.

This project was identified as a priority scheme in the Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan (LCWIP) for Great Yarmouth and is supported by Great Yarmouth Borough Council. A budget of £756,000 has been allocated for the works which would be funded by the Governments Active Travel Fund. This money cannot be used to fund other council services or initiatives and must be spent on schemes that promote walking, wheeling or cycling.
