A campaign to improve safety on a major road through Berkshire will be discussed in Parliament.
The A34 runs throughout Berkshire, connecting Southampton in the south to Oxford in the north.
Although it is a major route in southern England, there are concerns about safety, particularly for drivers entering the A34 at the slip roads at East Ilsley and Beedon in Berkshire.
Olivia Bailey, the Labour MP for Reading West and Mid Berkshire, who represents the villages, has announced that she will be raising the issue in Parliament.
She will introduce a Ten Minute Rule Bill on the issue, a rule which allows a backbench MP to introduce a bill in Parliament.
If the leader of the House of Commons supports the bill, a second reading will be allowed.
After a successful vote, the bill can then become law.
The A34 Slip Road Safety is set to be introduced tomorrow (Tuesday, May 13).
It is the latest in Mrs Bailey's campaign for safety measures, which involved a meeting with National Highways last month.
Mrs Bailey said: “Throughout this campaign, I have made it clear to my constituents that I will use all legislative levers available to me, and this Ten Minute Rule Bill is one of them.
“I am delighted to have the opportunity to present the A34 Slip Road Safety (East Ilsley and Beedon) Bill to Parliament, and look forward to sharing constituents’ experiences and making the case directly to government and my colleagues on Tuesday.”
