Drivers are being advised to plan ahead as a section of the A14 closes for essential maintenance from today.

National Highways will shut the westbound carriageway between junctions 51 and 46 nightly from 8pm to 6am until Tuesday, 10 March. The overnight schedule is intended to minimise daytime disruption, but motorists should expect significant diversions.

An official diversion route of approximately 53 miles will be in place throughout the closures.

The works form part of ongoing maintenance to keep the strategic route operating safely and efficiently.

Additional A14 Closure This Week

Separately, National Highways is also carrying out electrical works between junctions 58 and 59 from Tuesday, 3 March, to Wednesday, 4 March.

This stretch will also be closed overnight between 8pm and 6am.

During these works, Felixstowe Road — which runs parallel to the A14 — will operate as a one-way route to help manage traffic from the eastbound carriageway and reduce congestion.

Motorists are urged to:

  • Allow extra time for journeys

  • Follow signed diversion routes

  • Check traffic updates before travelling

The A14 is a key east–west route connecting the Midlands with the Port of Felixstowe, and closures can have knock-on impacts across the wider network.

National Highways has said the programme may be subject to change depending on weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.
