Digital bank, OakNorth, has provided a £5.7m loan to Manchester civil engineering and infrastructure provider, J Hopkins Contractors, to acquire a new HQ.
Founded in 1973 by John and Maureen Hopkins, the company has grown from a small family business into a key name in civil engineering and highway maintenance, boasting a £28.5m turnover in its last filed accounts.
The £5.7m loan will be used to acquire new premises in Irlam, Salford.
The new 6.4-acre site is considerably larger than the firm’s previous main office, enabling the company to accelerate its future revenue growth.
The additional space will also help facilitate the expansion of the company’s plant and equipment, enhancing operational efficiency and service delivery.
Noel Hopkins, J Hopkins Contractors managing director, said: “Ever since we were founded in 1973, our mission is to lead the civil engineering and construction industry by example.
“The acquisition of the new site is a significant milestone for our company, providing the space and resources needed to support our long term growth strategy.
“OakNorth’s understanding of our business, Greater Manchester’s contractor and infrastructure market, and flexible approach to financing have been instrumental in making this possible.”
Stewart Haworth, director of debt finance at OakNorth, said: “J Hopkins Contractors exemplifies the type of resilient, growth-oriented business that OakNorth is committed to supporting.
“With contractor revenue set for growth over the next five years, driven by major infrastructure programmes, the firm’s strategic acquisition of the Irlam site positions them perfectly to capitalise on this tailwind and drive continued success in the infrastructure sector.”
