A major £1m road resurfacing project is kicking off across Bristol on February 17.

The Bristol City Council plans include resurfacing and reconstructing nine roads, based on city-wide digital surveys completed last year.

Travel West says the £1m project is being funded by the Department of Transport and Bristol City Council's highway's budget. Roads are resurfaced by taking away the top layer and replacing it. The work is usually done when the road is damaged or old.

Ed Plowden, Green Party councillor for Windmill Hill and chair of Bristol's Transport and Connectivity Committee, says the Greens have been closely monitoring Bristol's roads to work on improvements.

"We use the latest technology, alongside walked inspections and reports from the public, to monitor the condition of our roads to plan in our resurfacing works." he explained.

"I am really pleased we’re investing in these high use areas, which should improve the overall driving and cycling experience and make sure our infrastructure can support the increasing demands of our growing city."

The work is expected to continue until the end of March this year.
