This year XII Alliance members Highway Traffic Management, Consilium Technical Services and Up to Speed Training and Assessments Limited again supported The Salvation Army’s Be A Star appeal, donating toys and gifts which are sent to families who would otherwise have little to no gifts at Christmas.
The Salvation Army runs the appeal which asks for donations of gifts and toys for children from a range of ages. The three businesses arranged a visit to the Birmingham branch to donate brand-new toys to provide gifts for children who may not otherwise be receiving presents this Christmas time.
Last year, The Salvation Army distributed more than 84,000 gifts in total, highlighting just how many families this initiative supports, with gifts donated for children from 0-3 years right the way up to up to young people and teenagers up to 16 years old.
“The Be A Star appeal is a fantastic cause that we’re proud to support as part of the XII Alliance,” said MD Greg Baldwin. “This year has been tough for many in Birmingham, so we’re proud to support an initiative that helps provide a little more joy and fun at Christmas for many children and their families.”
Speaking with representatives from the Birmingham branch, they talked about the different ages of children who are in need, with the 9-12 year old bracket this year being one that struggled in particular for toys.
The Birmingham branch of the charity helps around 750 families, which means they support anywhere from 1,500-3,000 children, who they like to try and ensure they are given at least 4 toys each. Monetary donations are also beneficial, as the charity works in partnership with grocery store chain Aldi to provide gift cards for families to spend on certain items to again make Christmas a little more special.
