Safer. Highways are delighted to announce that year's SHL!ve will, for the first time play host to over 100 students from West Nottinghamshire college.
Part of the soon to launch Rising Stars programme, the learners will take part in a bespoke, specially created programme aimed at showcasing the best of our industry, whilst at the same time enabling them to enrich their own knowledge base.
With support from the Safer Highways team, WNC and Galliford Try, the SH L!VE event will provide the perfect platform for the industry to connect with future talent. Especially as our skills gap remains a current challenge for our sector, it is crucial now more than ever, that we listen to what students need from us to become a more attractive, enticing, and relevant business for them to join.
The event will allow the learners to explore the exhibition, listen to the great speaking sessions and partake in the Big Ideas finale. In addition, a selection of the learners will also present in the Keynote theatre on how they view the industry and what they need from the sector.
“Connecting with future talent and hearing what they need from us is crucial to helping us make the right changes within our industry. But we also have a responsibility to demonstrate to those talented individuals, the endless possibilities that our industry provides, the exciting future ahead filled with innovation and digital transformation. The opportunity and diversity of skill that exists in the here and now, are hopefully enticing for our future talent and the event is a great place to sincerely listen to their opinions, answer their questions and show them the possibilities that lie ahead of them.” David Lowery, Chair of Safer Highways.
Galliford Try, to support the partnership with WNC, will be using their exhibition space to demonstrate to the students what the ‘Worksite of the Future’ could potentially look like for them. Galliford Try will showcase opportunities such as, the use of Augmented Reality on projects with the support of RealWear, and the ability to operate machinery from the safety of a control room with the support of Flannery using the latest technology.
Speaking about the partnership, Kevin Robinson, CEO of Safer Highways said,
"For me this wasn't about inviting a few students to an event but instead investing in the future of our sector.
"We know that there is an immense skills shortage we need to tackle and yet we continue to hurtle towards the cliff edge with no clear plan as to how we are to tackle it.
"Yet again I am proud to see that Safer Highways has taken a front foot approach to this challenge and look forward to welcoming the students to this year's event."
