With just to two weeks left nominate your highways HEORES, Safer Highways are proud to reveal the design for this years awards.
To be presented at a prestigious ceremony at the QEII convention centre and supported by many of the industry's leading contractors, with judges from both Transport Scotland and Highways England, the awards represent the one and only chance for industry to represent our peers for individual recognition, making them truly unique.
The awards trophies, unlike many others, have been custom designed and will be made of brushed metal, their intent being that, much like the accolades themselves they stand out from from the normal, something which as Safer Highways Chief Executive Kevin Robinson explains was a key part of the ethos of the whole ceremony.
He explained, " When the Safer Highways membership expressed a desire to recognise individuals we conceptualised an awards ceremony very different from any other in our industry. This was about our people and individual acts and not what we have achieved as organisations."
"With that in mind everything we have done with this ceremony has been different - the trophies are just the latest example of this.
"We really wanted to create something which was far from the usual corporate award trophy and something which, in truth far from winning work, or being part of a tender submission actually recognised our people for doing the right thing."
For those who feel that they may have an individual worthy of recognition we suggest you follow the guidelines below when considering nominating:
There are no specific categories for the awards due to our firm belief that no good deed or selfless act should go unnoticed. There are no limits on the number of people who can be nominated from each organisation by any specific nominator.
When nominating think the three B’s-Brave, bold and beyond.
Brave: Has anyone in your team of any of the companies you work with in the supply chain displayed an act of bravery to help someone else? It could be a fellow worker or a member of the public.
Bold: Has any individual been bold enough to tackle and issue that might have otherwise been ignored? Have they been bold enough to take on a challenge that improves a situation or helps someone out?
Beyond: Has the person or team you are thinking of nominating gone above and beyond their daily duties to show coverage and noble, decent qualities or simply went over and above to help or support someone or improve something?
We don’t need you to write an essay or even get the grammar right, we just need you to step back from the day job and think about all those things we do that go above and beyond the ‘day job’.
Ideally, we want people to nominate their colleagues, peers, team members or managers or maybe the person is an industry colleague from another company.
There are no specific categories or minimum criteria as we know the selfless acts of those in our industry know no boundaries. However, to give you some guidance, you can nominate someone for a random act of kindness, for courage, bravery or even saving a life. Maybe it’s someone who took it upon themselves to help a charity and got their company and colleagues on board to ‘just do more’ or perhaps it’s someone in the office who always goes over and above to help the team…the list is endless.
