Speed gun crews catch out drivers on 20mph roads near schools as pupils return


Police have caught out more than 20 speeding motorists in a crackdown on two 20mph roads near primary schools as pupils returned this week.


Officers from Ribbleton Neighbourhood Team and Community Road Watch were deployed to Watling Street Road and Gamull Lane following concerns raised by local residents. They conducted speed checks on Monday and Wednesday and recorded over 20 vehicles going over the 20mph speed limit.


The fastest vehicle was clocked travelling at 30mph. Preston Police said the offending motorists will be contacted by the safer roads team 'in due course'.


In a statement, Preston Police said: "Due to concerns that you have raised to Police, the Ribbleton Neighbourhood Team have conducted Community Road Watch on Watling Street Road, and Gamull Lane in Ribbleton near to the Primary Schools.


"On Monday and Wednesday this week we recorded over 20 vehicles going over the 20mph speed limit, with the fastest vehicle travelling at 30mph. These drivers will receive correspondence from our safer roads team in due course.


"We will be returning to this location to continue to target this area. If anybody has concerns about speeding on a particular road please let us know via the link [here]. Speed Concern Submission - Lancashire Road Safety Partnership."
