Spadeoak achieves international certifications in health and safety and environmental management

Surfacing contractor, Spadeoak, an Aggregate Industries business, has achieved international certification from the British Standards Institute (BSI), receiving the ISO 45001 Standard in Occupational Health and Safety Management and the ISO 14001 Standard in Environmental Management. ISO 45001 is the world’s first international standard for occupational health and safety (OH&S), providing a framework to increase safety, reduce workplace risks and enhance health and wellbeing at work, enabling an organisation to proactively improve its OH&S performance. ISO 14001, the world’s leading environmental management standard, provides a framework to make day-to-day operations, including procurement, storage distribution and manufacturing, more sustainable and kinder on the environment. Simon Wycherley, Managing Director at Spadeoak, comments: “Achieving these certifications gives us a great sense of pride as it further shows our commitment to putting both health and safety and environmental responsibilities, including sustainability, first in all that we do as an organisation. We are proud to have a strong health and safety culture, whereby our employees are encouraged to take an active role in their own OH&S, while also considering the impact our business has on the environment now and in the future. “Looking ahead, we will continue to work hard to further reduce workplace incidents and ensure our colleagues can return home safely each day. We will also uphold our commitment to reduce our environmental impact, adopting low carbon solutions and practices across all areas of our business.” The two new accreditations follow on from Spadeoak’s ISO 9001 Quality Management certification from the BSI, after it demonstrated a company-wide commitment to continuous business improvement.
