Simon Ellison, National Highways Sector Director is to leave Costain after 25 years.
Joining straight after graduating from the University of Salford as a Graduate Civil Engineer in 1996, Mr Ellison occupied various junior positions for the first 10 years of his career before becoming the Project Director for the M53 Bidston Moss Viaduct scheme in 2009.
In 2012, Simon was appointed Sector Director for Highways within the business, with a P&L responsibility for £450m+ p.a. and 1200+ strong team, a position he held for six years.
Then in 2018, he was appointed to lead the ‘Digital Technology Solutions’ element of Costain's leading edge strategy, developed and established a leading edge in-house digital technology solutions capability, including the opening of a new digital technology centre in Bristol delivering smarter infrastructure solutions such as connected automated mobility.
What followed was a spell in rail as Sector Director before becoming National Highways client Director, a position he has held for the last two years.
Announcing his departure on Social Media, Mr Ellison said,
"After an amazing 25 Years this is my last week working for Costain!
It’s been an absolute privilege and a pleasure working with so many brilliant people, learning my trade as a Graduate Engineer and going on to lead great teams, great projects, and key areas of the business.
A massive thank you to Costain and all the people that have inspired, supported, and empowered me to go and make a difference to the world and people’s lives.
Proud memories I’ll take with me as I look forward to the next chapter in my life and career.
Best wishes for now,
Simon"
The departure follows a turbulent period for Costain with heavy losses and a number of troubled projects cancelled plus speculation over the M62 improvement scheme, which the contractor was leading on.
Supplemental to that the organisation have seen their order book depleted with the postponement of the HS2 programme and the cancellation of the Smart Motorways programme by the government.
