SHL!ve confirm Keynote speaker ... with a difference

SHL!ve have confirmed Big Ian Donaghy as keynote speaker in the Safer Infrastructure Theatre at this year's SHL!ve event.

Big Ian is more than a speaker, he is also a doer. He works tirelessly to raise dementia awareness and combat loneliness, always focusing on the individual drawing on his experience of 20 years teaching young people with learning difficulties, and nearly 10 years in the world of care.

To be held at East Midlands Conference Centre on 29th September 2022. The event will incorporate both Respect our Roadworkers week and The Big Idea, with the live final in the afternoon of the full day programme.

SH L!ve is made up of indoor and outdoor exhibition zones showcasing the latest innovation, products, concepts and services in the health, safety and wellbeing sector, alongside several unique feature areas that will bring all the latest insight.

Ian will be speaking in the Safer Infrastructure Keynote theatre, an arena which will also host both a ministerial breakfast briefing around roadworker abuse as well as a welcome address from National Highways CEO, Nick Harris, and other sessions conceptualised to allow our industry leaders to learn from the experiences of other sectors.

Speaking about the announcement of Ian as the keynote, Freya Wells, co-founder of SHL!ve said,

"I am extremely honoured that individuals such as Big Ian have agreed to be a part of our event,

"The understanding and learning we can take from these individuals gives our sector understanding we could never get by looking inwardly within just our own industry.

"In order to grow and thrive as a sector we need to accept that we are not the source of all knowledge and actually accept that we can take learning from others.

"In doing so, as we have in the past, we can become a more mature, rounded and inclusive place for people to work.

Experienced in addressing and hosting conferences across the UK and Europe, Big Ian speaks with an infectious enthusiasm that is simultaneously entertaining and thought-provoking making audiences laugh and cry in equal measure, Big Ian comes with high recommendations not least from Mark Addy of Game of Thrones and Steve Phillip, Founder of the Jordan Legacy.

About Big Ian Donaghy

Dear Dementia: The Laughter and the Tears has a message for all those touched by dementia – those living with dementia, their carers and all professional staff. The book was deemed the only one on the Read Well Books on Prescription list to truly connect with people living with dementia.

"The Missing Peace is a unique life affirming read. It deals sensitively with difficult times in people’s lives and their heroic efforts to overcome them. I believe this is the start of a conversation that you have with the writer through his brilliant insightful stories. It will inspire people to talk and share and to realise that, although we are ultimately alone in this world, there are other souls who share similar hopes and dreams, successes and failures, highs and lows and similar joyful beginnings and heartbreaking endings. This book fills an important void that everyone will find in their life sometime. It will help, it will cheer, it will make you laugh and at times cry. It is a book about life and the true power of kindness"
