Following extensive evaluation, Safer Highways are delighted to announce David Lowery, Managing Director of Galliford Try as the new chairman of our advisory board.
Upon Martin Worthington’s retirement as chair, we have diligently searched for an individual who will both enable & empower us to drive significant improvements around health, safety & wellbeing for the lives of the people we put to work on a daily basis - effectively continuing our previous chairmans will and legacy.
“I am privileged to take on the role of Chairman for Safer Highways, working with the CEO & Advisory Board to support and drive the important opportunities our sector can positively impact upon. Our industry is going through significant change, where our operational approach & impact as companies needs to adapt to meet the challenges of the 21st century. ]
Fortunately for me, Safer Highways consists of members who are working hard to create change in the sector, and together we can collaborate in a powerful way to champion, shape, influence, and drive outcomes that make our industry a better place both for now and the future.
There is nothing I value more highly than integrity and humility, I live by the philosophy of putting people at the heart of everything we do; an ethos I believe that Safer Highways echoes. So, I look forward to innovatively and diversly capitalising on the great ideas that exist across the Safer Highways community and beyond.” David Lowery said.
Over the past five years Safer Highways has become a dominant force for good under the stewardship of firstly Stu Pollard and latterly Martin Worthington and has seen its sphere of influence grow around mental health, worksite abuse and fostering innovation and new ways of working that extend way beyond its own sector.
Welcoming David into his role and acknowledging the role of the outgoing chair, Safer Highways CEO Kevin Robinson said:
“First and foremost, I welcome David into the role as chair of Safer Highways. As CEO I am acutely aware of how much we have achieved in such a short space of time. David’s predecessors leave massive shoes to fill but I have no doubt he is more than capable of doing just that.
"Our vision for the next three years is far reaching and, also if I am honest, ambitious. To achieve this, our advisory board will need clear direction and strong leadership and in David I feel we have exactly that.
"I look forward to continually pushing the boundaries of what we can achieve, together, as a supply chain under his stewardship.”
David’s appointment will be one of several new key appointments to the Safer Highways advisory board, reflecting the organisation’s significant growth in the sector over the last 18 months, all of which will reflect an increased accountability to the wider membership, with the aim of increasing the representation of tier 2 and 3 contractors and beyond.
As we enter a new post-covid era, with fresh challenges ahead, the organisation, which now boasts over 150 members from the infrastructure sector, sits in a prime position to truly influence change for everyone working in the industry.
