Ringway Jacobs | Ringway Jacobs Apprentice Wins Second National Award In Less Than a Year

A Ringway Jacobs employee has been named Apprentice of the Year in a national awards ceremony for the second time in a matter of months.

After being named Apprentice of the Year by Highways Magazine last October, Daniel Johnson, who works in the Operational Maintenance Team on Ringway Jacobs’ Cheshire East Highways contract, has now beaten off stiff competition to be named Highways and Street Lighting Apprentice of the Year at the Association for Public Service Excellence (APSE) Apprentice Awards 2023.

Daniel started with Cheshire East Highways in 2020, just as Covid struck, and completed his apprenticeship last year.

Ringway Jacobs Managing Director Phil Horton said: “These Awards are extremely competitive, with organisations from across the UK taking part and only the very best candidates are short-listed so it was a fantastic achievement for Daniel and Cheshire East Highways.

“We are a proud member of the 5% Club, a national movement that promotes ‘earn as you learn’ opportunities such as apprenticeships and Daniel’s continuing excellence is a great advert for that initiative too.

“Inspired by successes such as Daniel’s, we will continue to invest in our future leaders through apprenticeships. His story is a great example of the career progression that apprenticeship schemes can offer.”

Speaking about the Apprentice Award, APSE Chief Executive Mo Baines, said it underlined just how important apprenticeships were to ensuring excellence in the delivery of frontline services.

“They remain a highly rewarding and mutually beneficial investment for local authorities. For each one of tonight’s finalists, their resilience and enthusiasm in delivering the frontline services we all depend on so much is exemplary,” he said.
