Infrastructure contractor Octavius has delivered a significant community initiative in Long Stratton, reinforcing its commitment to creating a lasting positive impact in the areas where it operates.

In September 2025, the company, alongside 13 delivery partners and a team of dedicated volunteers, completed its second “Leaving a Legacy” project. As principal contractor on the Long Stratton Bypass, Octavius focused its efforts on supporting local schools during the construction phase.

Over the course of two weeks, teams worked to transform outdoor spaces at St Mary’s Church of England Junior Academy and Manor Field Infant and Nursery School. The project saw playgrounds revitalised, gardens restored, and a range of nature-inspired play features installed, helping to create safer, greener and more engaging environments for children.

The initiative delivered measurable social value for the local community, including:

  • £57,000 in social value generated

  • More than 300 volunteer hours contributed by Octavius employees

  • £9,207 worth of materials donated to support the works

  • £500 of surplus materials donated to The Pulham’s Men’s Shed

The project highlights the growing importance of social value within infrastructure delivery, with contractors increasingly working alongside communities to deliver benefits beyond the core construction works.

Octavius expressed its appreciation to all partners and volunteers involved, noting the collective effort required to successfully deliver the initiative and support the Long Stratton community.

Building on this success, the company has confirmed plans for its 2026 “Leaving a Legacy” project and is inviting suggestions from communities on where support could be most impactful.
