Following on from its hugely successful Be the Change conference at the National Space Centre in Leicester in March, National Highways have released the video first shown as an integral part of the event.
The theme is simple. Vehicles don't crash, people do! And those people aren't statistics. They're your loved ones, mates and colleagues. It's personal.
The event, attended by a vast number of supply chain leaders focussed on a simple message, “be the change”.
In simple terms, only by empowering our workforce from the top down to make a positive impact on work related road risk will we ever change the statistics.
And the call to action is equally simple. We can all influence the behaviours of those around us. We can influence our friends and family. We can influence through our organisations. We can influence those driving for work in our own organisations and this influence should extend to your suppliers, contractors and supply chain.
Engage with your procurement teams to leave suppliers in no doubt about your expectations that they manage their road risk well.
Engage with your health and safety colleagues to use their expertise to manage road risk as well as they do other areas of risk within your business.
Statistics prove that whilst tier one contractors are highly compliant around work related road risk, their supply are not so much with recent multi agency operations proving there is still some way to go in achieving an environment where all vehicles entering and leaving National Highways sites are fully compliant.
Through the National Highways backed “Driving for Better Business” campaign the government owned company are providing a series of resources, free to access for all.
