Morgan Sindall to bring Hazard School to SH L!ve

Through bringing innovation in their induction process, Morgan Sindall aim to not only share their knowledge but also further collaborate across the sector. The bmJV M62 project was one of the first across our sector to conceptualise a hazard school. The interactive training school allows site operatives to understand the key hazards that they may face on site while in a safe environment. Each area of the hazard school contains scenarios for operatives to ‘spot hazards’ and discuss best practice for the following hazards: • People, Plant Interface • Lifting Operations • Work at Height • Tools / Equipment – selection / pre-use checks • COSHH • Environmental Hazards – Spills  / Invasive Species • Buried Services • Overhead Services • PPE

The school is a part of the continuous drive for safety on the M62. Feedback received from site operatives, visitors and the client team has been extremely positive. As an integral part of this, a Matterport camera has been used to create a virtual walkthrough of the hazard school, with each area labelled with all key information that would be given by the Health and Safety trainer if you were physically in the hazard school.  This virtual hazard training has been created to ensure that the training can be given at other locations, eg. compounds, supply chain offices – designed with the sole aim of getting operatives Home Safe and Well. The Key Benefits of the Hazard School Include: • Identifying key hazards and controls in a safe environment • Interactive • A virtual walk through • Ensuring all members of the project team and supply chain are briefed on site hazards.
