Mark Byard to leave National Highways

Mark Byard, Health, Safety and Wellbeing Director at National Highways is leaving the organisation, to take up the position of Safety Director at Cadent Gas.

Mr Byard joined National Highways in April 2018 after 12 years in the utilities sector at Severn Trent Water and United Utilities as Health and Safety Manager and Director respectively.

He said: “I’m leaving National Highways in February 2022 to take up the position as Safety Director at Cadent Gas, reporting into their CEO as a member of the Executive team. This is an exciting opportunity for me and is aligned to my background in utilities. I’ve really valued my time in National Highways where I’ve worked with some of the most committed and passionate health and safety-minded people I’ve ever come across. I will always look back with pride on the improvements that were made to safety, health and wellbeing via our Home Safe and Well approach, and will use my remaining time helping the Executive team find a suitable replacement who can build on these foundations.”

Mike Wilson, National Highways’ Chief Highways Engineer, said: “Mark has brought great leadership and energy to our commitment for everyone to get home, safe and well. I’m sorry to see him go and wish him all the best in his new role.”

Mr Byard will leave his role in February with a replacement due to be announced in due course.
