Major repairs planned for the M4 Chiswick Flyover

Drivers are being advised to plan ahead and leave extra time during their journeys as National Highways will be carrying out safety critical work to the M4 Chiswick Flyover near Brentford over the next few months.

Contractors Connect Plus, on behalf of National Highways, will be carrying out concrete repairs to the reinforced bridge piers which support the elevated section of the M4 (A4 Great West Road/M4 Chiswick Flyover) starting on Monday 23 January until May 2023.

So that work can be undertaken safely, lane closures will be in place on the A4 Great West Road, between Boston Manor Road and Lionel Road South, throughout the duration of our work. Structural repairs will take place during the week, mainly between 7:30am and 5:30pm. This work will keep the structure safe and extend its serviceable lifespan.

Contractors will also erect scaffolding and debris netting around the piers and equipment will be on site to help monitor noise and dust levels.

A 30mph speed restriction will be in place for safety and some pedestrian crossing points may need to be suspended for public safety. Signed diversions will be in place to the next available pedestrian crossing where applicable.

The work will need some full overnight road closures at the beginning and end of the project to safely install and remove the required traffic management:

Overnight closures Monday 23 January, for one week, the A4 eastbound and westbound carriageways, between Boston Manor Road and Ealing Road, will be closed overnight between 10pm and 5am to install a lane 3 closure and establish part of the works area in the central reserve. During this time diversions will operate on the:

  • A4 eastbound via the A3002 Boston Manor Road southbound, A315 High Street eastbound and B455 Ealing Road northbound.

  • A4 westbound diversion via the B455 Ealing Road southbound, A315 High Street westbound and A3002 Boston Manor Road northbound.

  • Windmill Road diversion via the B452 Windmill Road northbound, B4491 Little Ealing Lane eastbound and B455 Ealing Road southbound.

Monday 6 February for one week diversions will include:

  • A4 eastbound and westbound carriageways, between Ealing Road and Clayponds Avenue, will be closed overnight between 10pm and 5am to safely install a permanent lane 3 closure and establish the remainder of our works area in the central reserve.

  • A4 eastbound diversion via the B455 Ealing Road southbound and A315 High Street eastbound towards the Chiswick Roundabout.

  • A4 westbound diversion via the Chiswick Roundabout, A315 High Street westbound and B455 Ealing Road northbound.

Late April to early May 2023 Overnight road closures will be in place between 10pm and 5am to safely remove the lane closures on the A4, following the completion of works.
