Kiely prepares for safety and welfare day

Highway maintenance specialist Kiely Bros has continued its ongoing commitment to health and safety with its annual safety and welfare stand down day for crews that will be working the length and breadth of the British Isles over the coming season.

Almost 40 of the leaders were there listening to, or contributing with, presentations, taking part in the workshops, or participating in the team building sessions that took place.

Commenting on the day afterwards, Kiely Group’s Managing Director, Mike Kiely Jnr, said: “For us this is one of the most important days of the year. We are readying the team with the knowledge and skillsets required for them to carry out work for our clients across the country. Personally, they are doing so in my family’s name and so I want to be sure that they are doing this as safely as they can. Each crew member is an extension of the family business, and we think of them as such.”

During the day, delivery was taken of eight new welfare vehicles and four new flatbed vans for the coming season, too.

Ross Bullerwell (pictured), a respected industry professional with multiple years of contracting experience, was recently appointed as a consultant to the business and was on hand to inspect them. Ross commented afterwards “It was a real pleasure to be asked to lead the day today. I have run contracting businesses for over 20 years now and this day of the year is potentially the most important day for every company. The fact that Kiely’s think of every member of their staff as an extension of their family means that they see safety as a given, not a requirement.”

Bullerwell continued “ It was great to see the fleet of new vehicles arrive too, it goes to show that Kiely’s place safety and welfare above profit. These vehicles are brand new for the coming season and provide excellent facilities for the crews who work in all weathers serving the UK taxpayers.”

During the interactive sessions attendees were given their opportunity to suggest their own personal wish lists to the Kiely’s Directors and, as was anticipated, a variety of suggestion were readily offered.
