Kay Slade has been appointed managing director of UK Regional Civils at Balfour Beatty, effective February 2026.

She succeeds Mark Arrandale, who has held the role on an interim basis since October 2025 and will revert to his position as finance director at the end of the month.

A qualified solicitor, Slade joined Balfour Beatty in April 2022 as managing counsel. Two years later, she was appointed northwest area director for the Regional Civils business. In that role, she is credited with driving significant change, streamlining the company’s operational footprint and strengthening overall business performance.

Her promotion reflects recognised leadership and operational capability rather than a traditional legal career trajectory, underlining the impact she has made since transitioning into senior management.

Nick Crossfield, divisional CEO of Balfour Beatty’s UK Construction Services business, welcomed the appointment, saying:

“Kay is an exceptional leader with strong industry knowledge and a proven track record of delivery. I am delighted she has agreed to step into the role of managing director as we move forward with a robust pipeline of work and continue to deliver for our customers.”

Commenting on her appointment, Kay Slade said:

“I am proud to take on this role and to lead such a talented and committed team whose work delivers real and lasting benefits for the communities we serve. Since joining Balfour Beatty as managing counsel four years ago, my progression reflects not only the opportunities available within the business, but also the company’s commitment to developing people and supporting long-term career growth.”
