Highways England has started the search for a contractor for its largest maintenance area in the UK-Area 9.
It is now inviting bids for the eight-year £335 million contract to cover the West Midlands, which will start in July 2022 and cover motorways and trunk roads in Herefordshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire, Warwickshire, West Midlands and Worcestershire.
Originally announced in May, official details have now been released of the work, which now includes; severe-weather response, cyclical and reactive maintenance, incident response, defect rectification, maintenance of roadside technology, traffic management for contractors and other response teams, and the maintenance of depots.
In the tender document, Highways England has said, in order to maintain the resilience of its network, it may not award the contract to organisation that scores the highest if that company already has a number of other maintenance contracts on its network.
Details can be found here: Area 9 Maintenance and Response Contract (West Midlands) – Find a Tender (find-tender.service.gov.uk) with Highways England asking for requests to participate by 9th September.
