Industry heavyweight moves from private sector to take leading role in local authority.
Lancashire CC have scored a major coup as they have recruited former Capita director Matt Townsend as their new Director of Highways and Transportation.
The authority, which is responsibe for the maintenance of 4,600 miles of highways and 5,300 miles of footpaths in Lancashire.
This includes maintaining roads and footpaths, fixing potholes, winter gritting and maintaining bridges.
Mr Townsend joins the local authority having previously had a tenure as account director for Amey on their National Highways contract in area 10.
A former Director of Captia prior to their takeover and posessing a civil engineering background, Mr Townsend has also held significant roles with National Highways as their Project Leader - A66 Northern Trans-Pennine Project, where he led the mobilisation and delivery phase of the £1.6bn project and latterly with WSP as their Highways Sector Director.
Speaking about the appointment on social media Mr Townsend said,
"I’m happy to share that I am starting a new position as Director of Highways and Transport at Lancashire County Council!
"I am really excited to be joining Lancashire at this pivotal time and to make a difference for those communities that we serve."
