Ferrovial, Mott MacDonald and Grimshaw to deploy a network of vertiports in the UK

Ferrovial has partnered with Mott MacDonald and Grimshaw to develop the design and engineering components for a network of more than 25 vertiports across the UK. This follows the agreement reached by Ferrovial with advanced air mobility developers, Lilium and Vertical Aerospace, to operate across the planned network.

Vertiports are vital to ensure successful landing, recharging and take-off of electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, also known as flying taxis. These intermodal centres, which are integrated into the city and adapted to surroundings, reduce noise impact and improve energy efficient through innovative design.

“The partnership between vertiports and eVTOLs will provide high speed, affordable, emissions-free travel to millions of people. This network will boost local economies with a new model of regional connectivity,” said Kevin Cox, CEO of Ferrovial Vertiports.

Mike Haigh, Mott MacDonald executive chair commented: “Advanced air mobility will be a key mode of sustainable transport offering choice for quick journeys across congested cities, connecting hubs and enabling inter-modal connectivity. Through this partnership Mott MacDonald are committed to planning and designing sustainable infrastructure for this new market.”

Mott MacDonald is one of the world’s most experienced aviation consultancies providing aviation advisory, planning and engineering services. The consultancy has undertaken projects for governments, aviation authorities, investors and operators of airports, heliports and vertiports. The company operates as a single global team focussing on outcomes, combining strengths across sectors with local knowledge and insight. This appointment will draw upon the collective experience of their aviation team together with their specialists across sustainable energy, transport, built environment, smart cities and digital.
