Essex Highways and their partners Ringway Jacobs have called for an end of abuse for operatives working on the highways.
In an emotive video released on YouTube both local councillors and operatives have explained that abuse is a massive issue, and indeed as the video below shows there is a massive issue around abuse.
One operative even goes into detail about how a member of the public repeatedly became aggressive towards him, whilst he tried to explain why a closure was in place.
Councillor Lesley Wegland OBE as explains how whilst out with a gulley cleaning crew she saw a car mount the pavement and narrowly miss both her and the crew carrying out their works.
Speaking about the video, Kevin Robinson, CEO of Safer Highways said,
“Raodworker abuse seems to have been a Pandora’s box we, at Safer Highways have opened.”
“It is great to see that the message that “enough is enough” is now starting to cascade throughout the country”
“Only through a concerted effort and a change in social values can we end this.”
Roadworker abuse is not something which should be seen as simply part of the job but instead something which is socially unacceptable.
Safer Highways are proud to be a partner with leading contractors in our industry to take a front foot approach to eradicating this.
