A new large mural promoting a nationwide initiative to end men’s violence against women and girls has been revealed on Platform 2 at Rugby station.

The piece is part of Avanti West Coast’s continued collaboration with White Ribbon UK, created alongside the Heart of England Community Rail Partnership (CRP) and local artist Emily Marlowe.

The design showcases individuals of varying genders, ages, and cultural backgrounds, accompanied by the message: “It takes all of us—let’s work together to end violence against women and girls,” highlighting the shared responsibility to address the issue.

Marlowe, an artist based in the West Midlands, drew inspiration from Rugby’s three civic colour themes—History and Heritage, Creativity and Culture, and Industry and Innovation—integrating them into the artwork.

The mural was supported through Avanti West Coast’s Community Rail Project Fund, which backs projects that strengthen ties between railways and local communities. It follows a similar display installed at Birmingham International station, which was unveiled on White Ribbon Day in 2025.

As the operator of Rugby station, Avanti West Coast is officially recognised as a White Ribbon UK accredited organisation.

In the last year and a half, the company has implemented compulsory, role-specific training on sexual harassment for all employees and has incorporated the charity’s principles into its wider operations, with a focus on equality and creating safer workplaces.

A QR code included in the mural encourages travellers to pledge the White Ribbon promise: to never commit, justify, or ignore violence by men against women and girls.

Megan Lock, Communications Officer at White Ribbon UK, said it was inspiring to see the impact of collaboration between communities and organisations. She noted that projects like this help bring important conversations into public spaces, challenge harmful behaviours, and promote a culture where people feel safe and respected.

Dave Whitehouse, Safety, Security and Environment Director at Avanti West Coast, added that the company is dedicated to ensuring a safe railway for all passengers. He explained that the mural forms part of their ongoing efforts with White Ribbon UK to raise awareness and engage the Rugby community on this significant social issue.
