Following the recent announcement by South Wales Trunk Road Agent, Amey Consulting has been appointed to the South Wales Trunk Road Agent (SWTRA) Consultancy Services Framework.

SWTRA manages the South Wales area of the Welsh Government's strategic road network on behalf of the Welsh Government, covering 436 kilometres of trunk road and 178 kilometres of motorway. Amey Consulting will provide design and consultancy services for the motorway and trunk road network over the next 4 years, supporting the Welsh Government to deliver an accessible, sustainable, and efficient transport system.

Amey Consulting will deliver work across the following lots:

· Management

· Structures

· Highways

· Geotechnics

· Traffic and Transportation

· Statutory Procedures and Safety

· Environment

To support delivery, Amey Consulting will be creating a variety of additional civil engineering roles from UK wide offices, including Cardiff and Bristol, with the option to work flexibly. The engineering consultancy will offer tailored support toward professional accreditations for all engineers (IEng/CEng).

Placement on the Framework increases Amey Consulting’s investment in Wales with work ongoing on the South East Wales Technical and Professional Services Framework and South West and Mid Wales Framework.

Alex Gilbert, Managing Director, Amey Consulting, said: “We are delighted to have been awarded a place on the SWTRA Consultancy Services Framework. The largest framework of its kind in Wales. Our ambition is to support the Welsh Government in designing a safe, efficient, and sustainable trunk road and active travel network, fully aligned with the Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) Act 2015.”

Speaking on the announcement, Richard Jones, Head of Service for SWTRA, added: “I would like to pass on my congratulations to the six successful tenderers on their award. SWTRA is looking forward and excited to be working with them. Each brings a wealth of experience and innovative thinking to the partnership, and we look forward to working together to deliver the key priorities for the Welsh Ministers as outlined in the Llwybr Newydd: the Wales Transport Strategy 2021.    “A key focus of the contract and our work moving forward will be to assist in providing a strategic road network in Wales that is sustainable, meeting the existing needs of the road users whilst protecting the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. Working with our new partners on the framework we will explore future infrastructure improvements that reduce carbon emissions by improving service life, speed of construction and maintenance and reducing environmental impact. Using the experience of our partners we will continue to investigate opportunities to support projects that benefit active travel provision in South Wales”.
