Amey has secured two major framework contracts with Network Rail to deliver structural assessment services across the Eastern Region.

The agreements, known as the Eastern Region Assessment Contract, or ERAC, were awarded in March and are worth a combined £40 million over five years. Amey has been appointed to both the North and South Lots, representing the largest possible award under the framework.

The work will cover several important rail corridors, including the East Coast Main Line, Anglia, the East Midlands, and North and East routes.

Under the contracts, Amey will assess railway bridges and other structures to ensure they remain safe, compliant and capable of supporting future operational needs. The programme will involve detailed inspections, engineering analysis and evidence-based recommendations to help Network Rail make informed decisions on maintenance, strengthening and asset management.

The company said the award strengthens its role in supporting the safety, resilience and performance of the UK rail network. It also builds on Amey’s long-standing presence in the region, where it has delivered structural assessment services for Network Rail since 2003.

The assessments will help identify potential risks, confirm load capacities and support decisions designed to minimise disruption for passengers, freight operators and local communities.

Justin Page, Amey’s Business Director for Rail, welcomed the contract award and said the company was pleased to continue its partnership with Network Rail through the Eastern Region Assessments Contracts.

He said the appointment reflected the strength of the relationship between the two organisations, as well as Network Rail’s confidence in Amey’s technical capability and collaborative approach.

Page added that Amey would use the framework to support smarter investment decisions and improve the long-term performance of critical rail infrastructure across its lifecycle.

The contract win further reinforces Amey’s position in the rail infrastructure sector and adds to its wider portfolio of engineering, asset management and technical services work across the UK transport network.
