3M helping Bombardier deliver productivity and safety

Our customers are under increasing pressure to deliver more, but with fewer resources than ever before. It’s a difficult challenge that can only be met with the best techniques, tools and materials.

Maximising productivity requires understanding all aspect of your processes and then finding solutions to optimise these processes.

Balancing productivity with safety Productivity counts for nothing if your workers are unsafe, you can maximise workplace safety through effective use of tools and consumable products.

Reduce exposure to hand arm-vibration

3M has worked closely with Bombardier to help strike an effective balance between a safe working environment and optimum levels of productivity.

Bombardier is perhaps best known as a manufacturer of aircraft, light rail and regional trains. As well as being a manufacturer, Bombardier also provides dedicated fleet management, engineering, refurbishment and maintenance services.

Many of the maintenance and repair workers regularly use hand grinders, sanders and polishing tools and Bombardier are focused on reducing hand-arm vibration, one way of doing this is by setting the maximum exposure limit to just a quarter of the limit recommended by the Health and Safety Executive. This control helps protect staff but it also means that they need to be as productive as possible.

3M™ Cubitron™ II Grinding & Cut-Off Wheels helping to boost productivity and reduce abrasive risks

One of the ways how Bombardier has been able to effectively manage hand-arm vibration exposure and maximise productivity is by using 3M™ Cubitron™ II Grinding and Cut-off Wheels.

3M™ Cubitron™ II Grinding and Cut-off Wheels

The Cubitron™ II product offers us a number of important advantages, as it cuts quicker and lasts longer for the tasks that we have to carry out. Typically, these will be removing areas of corrosion on steel bodied vehicles. This means that my team can get the job done faster, with minimal exposure to vibration, and then move on to the next stage of each refurbishment.” Steve Rose, Corrosion Support Manager.
